Themed “This Earth Hour, Shine a Light on Climate Action '', the event was part of the emirate’s initiatives to protect the environment. It did not only save energy, but also attracted a large crowd of people who learnt a great deal about the necessary roles in conserving the environment. The event was introduced by the Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) in collaboration with the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA). Veerflow planned and executed the entire event from concept creation to technical support and final execution.

The aim was to generate a clean energy from a sculpture that bore the Earth Hour "60+" and light up the event during the lights-off period from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. We managed to plan and execute the whole event successfully in 5 days only. After we calculated the electrical energy required to light up the entire place, we designed and fabricated an earth-shaped wind turbine that is capable of producing and storing a power of 22 Watt. The transmission system includes a rope, once pulled, a gear box transmits the motion to a wind turbine assembly and converts the kinetic energy to an electrical energy and stores it for later use. To increase the production and storage capacity, we designed and installed additional playful mechanism for children; a playground seesaw that is capable of producing and storing energy while children play. The event was able to educate people in general, and children in particular, on the huge benefit of using clean energy to produce power. The lights-off event included an awareness exhibition about Earth Hour, a themed wall graphic, selfies, educational workshops, audience competitions, entertaining clowns, glow-in-the-dark T-shirts, and educational brochures.
